Dota 2 is Valve's free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena. Two teams of five each defend a base while pushing lanes, killing creeps and fighting over objectives. Each player controls one hero from a roster of over a hundred, and each hero has its own abilities and role.
Matches usually last between 30 and 60 minutes and reward coordination, map awareness and good use of items. Valve updates the game regularly with new heroes, balance changes and events, and a tutorial and bot matches help new players. Purchases are cosmetic only and do not change the game.
The download is the official one from Steam. You need a free Steam account, and the game installs and updates through the Steam app.
